Wood Heat

Does it make a difference to my insurance rates if I have a wood cook stove (certified & approved installation) to do a portion of my home heat (in conjunction with solar and propane), as opposed to an airtight parlor stove or equivalent.
Wood Stove vs Parlor Stove and Ontario Home Insurance
Hi Peter
If wood is your primary source of heat, many insurers will not offer coverage.
As for an Airtight Parlor Stove vs a Wood Cook Stove, the Parlor would probably be preferred by many carriers (assuming it is ULC, up to code, etc).
This is a case where several insurers would have differing rating from each other.
Your best bet is to check with the Home insurance company as you get quotes.
