Wind Damage to Shingles
by Mark
(Kingston)
During a recent wind storm, shingles covering an area of about 15 feet x 20 feet were blown off my roof. I contacted the company that makes the shingles and they say they don't make my shingles any longer. I have called numerous retailers and contractors and no one can get them. Since I cannot get the matching shingles what will the insurance company do in this situation? The shingles are approximately 8 years old.
Shingles Blown Off Roof
Hi Mark,
The insurer will most likely replace the entire roof. It's possible that if only half the roof is damaged (i.e. one side), then they will only replace that side and make you pay the balance if you want the whole roof replaced. If the roof was obviously due for replacement, then this could be an issue as well that will factor in to how the claim is handled.
Hope that helps
