why am i denied insurance on a vehicle that was previously insured

why was my insurance company able to. not insure my vehicle that they insured previously. I was told that because the car is an old police car they will not insure the car. i dropped the insurance for two weeks after the policy expired while i fixed the car after a minor accident.
