What dont you need in Ontario auto insurance?

by Jess
(Ontario, Canada)

Do you have to have collision to be able to drive a car?

Collision on Ontario Auto Insurance

Hi Jess
Collision is not mandatory. If you have a loan or lease your finance company will insist on it though.

Hope that helps?

You don't need "Collision" and "Comprehensive" coverages.

Collision covers at-fault damages...so if you damage your car yourself, or you damage someone else's car.
Comprehensive covers things like fire/theft/damage/broken windows, etc.

You can have a deductible on these things (for example, I have a $1000 deductible on both of them for mine - which means I have to pay that first before insurance will cover me for any of those types of claims). Having a higher deductible can lower your monthly insurance rates.
