water coming out of ceiling

by Roger D.
(St Lazare)

I have water coming out of the cielling..what would be the first thing to do? the water is coming through the attic upstairs in the master bedroom but a few weeks ago the same problem happened in the kitchen on the first floor and then just stopped leaking on it's own.

Water in ceiling

Hi Roger
Don't ignore this. Water damage causes mould which can be very bad for your health.

Figure out the source of the leak as soon as possible and get it fixed. Most likely you have a leak in your roof. When you get the source of the leak repaired, make sure to fix the water damage as well. Get all the moisture out to avoid future mould issues.

In terms of insurance, you might or might not be covered for this. Depending on the cause of the damage and your policy wordings. If a wind storm ripped some of your shingles off, you are likely covered. If this is the result of the roof being old and in need of replacement, you are likely not covered.

Hope that helps a little. Mae sure you get some professionals in to check the damage.
