Want to maintain daughter on policy after she moves out
by Linda
(Ottawa, Canada)
My 23 year daughter who is an occasional driver on my policy has just achieved a 6 star rating and I added a driver record protector for her so her first accident will not cause an increase in insurance. She has plans to move out of our home and is no longer a student. I would like her to remain on my policy because she will still drive the car up to 50% of the time, she can be covered by the driver record protector and it will maintain her insurance record until she is ready to buy her own car. Is this possible or will she need to be removed from my policy when she moves and also lose the record protector? I currently have "drive to work" coverage for a certain amount of kilometers so that it would be enough to cover travel to work for either of us. The kilometers would need to increase if it is now measured from my daughter's new residence, rather than our home address. She does not travel to or from work during normal rush hours.
Daughter Moving out
Hi Linda
You should be able to keep your daughter as a listed driver. Most insurers would prefer to know who is driving your car on a regular basis so having her listed should be fine
As for the driving record protector .... each insurer has different rules about this. You'll have to call them and discuss the situation to be sure it still covers her. They may want to make changes to the rating of the policy as well since she will be living at a different address.
All the best!
