Someone dropped a basketball net on my car
by Wendy
(Oakville, Ontario Canada)
I was parked in a "friend's" driveway - he went to move a basketball net that was in his driveway and he dropped it on the hood of my car - he told me at the time he has a contact who would take care of it. I know he works in the insurance industry. I have approached him to tell him I have a quote, and he said again he would look into it - and again I have heard nothing back. My quote for repair is $1000 - not including the rental for 3 days.
Who is responsible for the damage?
What next steps should I take?
Some Friend!
Hi Wendy,
You may want to call your insurer about this. Hopefully you have full coverage. Failing that, you might want to take him to small claims court. He's clearly liable for this, but he likely knows it has to come from his pocket.
This is a lousy situation to be in ... but you can't wait too long.
