Single car accident... how will my rates increase?

by Amanda
(Burlington, On)

In February of 2011, I was in an accident on a highway after an 18 wheeler swerved into my lane, forced me onto a shoulder full of ice and than I lost control and slammed into a concrete barrier. The car was a write off ($5500), and I have been with this company, ticket and accident free for 6 years. How much can I expect my rates to rise? they were $253/month. The anxiety of my renewal is killing me!!

Thanks in advance,
-Amanda

Single Car Accident

HI Amanda
I hate to tell you this, but this will be considered an at fault accident. If your rates don't go up it will be because you had accident forgiveness. If you don't have this. Expect to pay nearly double what you pay now, as if you were a brand new driver. You'll have to wait and see. Or call your insurer to discuss. If your rates don't change much, don't switch insurers as this will affect your rates elsewhere for at least 6 years.
