Sharing one vehicle
by Jason W
(Hamilton, ON, Canada)
My girlfriend and I are moving in together and would like to share one car (hers). Since we don't want to make car payments on mine. Will my insurance company give me coverage on hers while in her name or will we have to change the ownership of the vehicle to my name as I would be doing most of the driving and she would be occasional.
Thanks
Sharing one vehicle and auto insurance
Hi Jason,
In order for you to insure the car, your insurer will want the ownership to be in your name (double check with them before you do that).
Or you could have her take out a policy and list you as the primary driver with her as occasional. Then the ownership could stay in her name.
In either case, be sure to advise the auto insurance company know who the drivers are.
