Rules for policy coverage when borrowing vehicles
by Kara
(Ontario, Canada)
My boyfriend who is 21, has his G licence & his own vehicle & insurance & doesn't live with me. Is he covered to borrow my car on occasion? If he got into an accident with my car who's insurance would cover damages?
Boyfriend Driving Your Car
Hi Kara
You can lend your car to any fully licensed driver and coverage is in effect. But if the person driving your car has an accident, your insurance covers it and your rates go up. So be very cautious about this.
If he ends up living with you or driving the car regularly, he needs to be listed on the policy
Hope that helps.
