Repairs after the claim
by K
(Scarborough)
If the insurance claim was made within the first year from the date of an accident, how long do I have to actually go ahead with the repairs? Is it only one year from the day that the claim was made?
Also, in Ontario are we allowed to have more then one insurance on one vehicle?
Answer
Hi K,
I don't think I have enough information to answer correctly. But I'll take a crack at it.
You are supposed to notify your insurer within 7 days of an accident. And repairs are supposed to be conducted in a "reasonable" time period according to the Ontario Automobile Policy.
Under parts of the policy, you can start a lawsuit against your insurer up to one year from the date that the damage occurred.
I can't see why you wouldn't want to complete the repairs as soon as possible. Your insurer would want claims settled as soon as possible. My advice would be to communicate with the claims department of your insurer to get the claim wrapped up. If you are having trouble with them follow up regularly, use courtesy, but be firm about what you want
As for having two policies, stick with just one. You are wasting your money having two.
