re insuring a G2 in Ontario

I have a regular car license for Ontario but my friend age 59 has a G2 because he is from Europe.

If i buy a car in Ontario is he allowed to drive it and be insured and what would it cost for 6 months?

We are both age 59. No tickets or claims.
