Primary driver is not the same as ownership

(Cambridge, Ontario)

Hi,
My sister has a car in Toronto, and she wants to give it to me. I live in Cambridge. Can I buy the insurance as the primary driver without changing the ownership of the car? What kind of paper do I need to prove that I am tho only one who drives that car?
Thanks

Car From Sister

Hi there
The registered owner of the car and the insurance policy holder are supposed to match. If your sister is going to continue owning the car, then she needs to get the insurance policy but list you as the primary driver at the Cambridge address.

If she is truly giving the car to you, then it would be best to transfer the ownership to you so you can buy the insurance yourself.

You might like to know that Cambridge rates should be lower than Toronto rates.

By the way, are your rates too high? Check here:
