Premiums for wife skyrocket after husband has accident and loses license
(Toronto, On, Canada)
My mother's premiums have just tripled, since her husband (a senior) had an accident last year (blamed on medical reasons), resulting in him losing his license forever. They had 2 cars, but now only have 1, and she is the only licensed and insured driver in the household. She has a good record and has always had reasonable premiums. The husband had his own car, but they had them listed under the same policy. So now that her policy is coming up for renewal, the insurance company is penalizing her for her husbands incident last year, with her skyrocketed premium. Is this fair? Is this allowed? Should she seek out another insurance company or will her husband's incident affect her premium, no matter which insurance company she finds? She herself has never had a claim or accident, so she is being penalized for her husband's driving. What can she do?
Mothers Insurance Policy
Your mother should shop around. Her record should not be impacted by her husband's like this. If the car was in her name and the insurance was in her name that's a possibility. But try shopping around anyhow ...
