Payment on death
(Ontario)
1. What documents need to be presented in Ontario need to be presented for life insurance to be paid?
2. Roughly how quickly after presenting documents is the payment released?
Life Insurance Settlement in Ontario
Each life insurance company has a claim form to be completed and the death certificate must be presented as well. Many insurers also ask for a copy of the birth certificate if they didn't get a copy at time of application.
Under normal circumstances, the benefit is paid quite quickly (4 - 14 days) after receiving everything.
There are times where it takes longer. For example, if the policy was recently issued the insurer might check the application for misrepresentation. Or if it is not clear how to reach the beneficiary.
Hope that helps.
