No fault

by Norm D
(Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada)

My question is, I was parked in a parking lot legally and I didn't even have the keys in the ignition, car was not running, I just got in it when a guy backed into the drivers side door and caused $1000.00 damage, he admitted fault fully, will my rates go up since I put it through insurance, will I have to pay anything to have my car fixed, I have never used my insurance for anything in a very long time, the last accident wasn't my fault either but didn't put it through my insurance to fix it, it was an older car and wasn't worried about it, this time it happened to my new car, 6 months old.

Claim and Rates

Hi Norm
A no fault accident does not affect your rates. If the other driver is on record saying he is at fault and that you weren't driving, then you should have nothing to worry about.

Please be sure to discuss this further with a licensed insurance representative. Oh, and by the way, are your rates too high? Check here:
