Leak in foundation

Appear to have a leak in foundation wall behind a finished basement wall as carpet is wet after a thaw on unseasonably warm winter day.


It appears from reviewing my policy this is not covered. Is this generally the case in Ontario policies? Is there another avenue to make a claim? I have what is called a Platinum Solution. Would this cover it potentially?

Leaky foundations are not covered by most, if not all insurers. I am not sure what is specifically covered by the "Platinum Solution" but I would guess a leaky foundation is not.

Home insurance is designed to cover what is unforeseen and a sudden accidental type of damage. Like fire, burst water pipes, or theft. A leaky foundation will eventually happen in most homes and therefore is more of a maintenance issue (like a broken down furnace or old roof) and is therefore not covered.
