Joint Auto Policy with Ex-Spouse
by Jennifer
(Ontario)
My ex-husband and I live separately but have a joint auto insurance policy that has our two vehicles on it and each of us is a primary driver for one vehicle and our two sons are occasional drivers on both vehicles. It has been ok for the last couple of years but now our insurance company is saying that if we are not living together we need to have separate policies - is this true? Why was it ok for two years and not now?
Separated, Separate Policies
Hi Jennifer
Yes, if you are split up and do not live together, you need separate policies. with respect to the second question, maybe the insurer didn't know until now. Please be sure to discuss this further with a licensed insurance representative.
