Insurance in BC but Ontario License

by Evelyn
(BC Canada)

I have insurance for my car in BC but I still have an Ontairo licence....I have been trying to get it switched for two years but somehow there is always a problem....... I have been paying BC insurance for the past two years. Recently I got in a fender bender and now ICBC is saying that my insurance is void because I haven't switched my drivers license to BC but I have made several attempts through them.....what is going to happen???

Will i have to pay for their damages which is slight..only going stop/go what about if she says she is hurt????
I don't know what the verdict is but If I have been paying insurance for the past two years shouldn't that be enough and the insurance company gave it to me without a BC drivers licence .... they knew I had Ontario licence....

Accident in BC, Ontario License

Hi Evelyn,

This is a tough one. On one level you are right, why did they insure you if they knew you were not licensed in BC? On the other hand, that is your responsibility...

People move provinces all the time and the change of license is usually pretty easy. There is obviously way more to the story here. You should strongly consider getting legal advice. Especially since there is a chance of bodily injury.

Please be sure to discuss this further with a licensed insurance representative. Oh, and by the way, are your rates too high? Check here:
