Insurance Company wants picture of my roof
by Johnna
(Penticton BC Canada)
Hi,
My house insurance broker sent someone out to my home to take pictures of my roof from the front and back of the house.
I has a certified roofer already send notification that my roof is sound for at least the next five years as the insurance company requested.
Why would the broker wish to take pictures, and am I obligated to allow them to come on my property and take the pictures. If pictures are required, is there any reason why I can't supply the photos myself, rather than having some stranger come onto my property?
I live in BC.
Thank you for any information you can give me.
Home Insurance and Pictures of Roof
Hi Johnna,
The insurance company is trying to avoid claims due to older or damaged roofs. They are probably asking the broker to verify that the roof is in good condition.
The concern if you send in the pictures is the possibility that you send in pictures that were taken at an earlier date or pictures that are touched up.
You could refuse to let them come and take a picture, but I don't recommend it. You will be cancelled and will have a hard time finding coverage as a result.
Don't take this personally, many insurers visit the homes they insure.
Please be sure to discuss this with a licensed insurance representative. And you can try getting quotes here:
