I hit a parked car in a parking lot

I hit a parked car in a parking lot (no damage to my car but damage to other car). I left a note for the owner with my contacts and offered to pay for the damage. Did I do the right thing or should I have let their insurance pay for the damages? They said my insurance would go up if they went through insurance. Is this true? I don't have any damage to my car! Thank you

Yes, you did the right thing. If the situation was turned around that is what you would want them to do. If this goes through insurance your rates will go up as you are at fault. If you pay out of pocket be sure to get a receipt in case they try to put it through insurance as well.
Please be sure to discuss this further with a licensed insurance representative. Oh, and by the way, are your rates too high? Check here:
