How to Prevent Having to Pay High Premiums now?

by Jason
(Toronto)

I have been a G2 driver in Ontario for nearly a year and I got 2 speeding tickets in this time period. I never paid attention to it and actually paid of one of the tickets without fighting it. The other one I never paid off but never contested it either.

Issues:
1. Now my license has 6 points which has caused me getting an interview call from the MTO.
2. My car insurance has gone way too high (600 per month)

Questions
1. What are the options on getting the premium from being so high? Change in insurance company? or making my wife the principal driver? getting the G license? or anything else?
2. What should be done during the meeting with the MTO office?

High Insurance Rates - G2 and tickets

Hi Jason,
If you don't pay that other ticket your license could get suspended, which will further raise your rates.

The best thing you can do is shop around. Get as many quotes as you can. One great place to get lots of quotes is here:

Getting your G license will help a bit with some carriers. And if you never took driver training, that can help too.

But the two best things you can do for your rates is to stay ticket free for the next few years and to shop around.

As for the MTO meeting. Be polite, apologize and ask for forgiveness. Own up to the fact that you got the tickets. That usually goes way further than being argumentative.

Hope that helps
