How does my record get affected?

I was driving a friend's car and had an accident (I hit a pole). There is significant damage to the car. If he claims it to his insurance will it affect my driving record? If yes, for how long and to what extent will the consequences be? Also, will my insurance rates increase or will it only be his that increase?

Your friend is probably going to be held liable for the accident and it will affect his rates for six years.
There is a good chance that it will also be held against you as well. For six years. Yes, this is double punishment, but it happens frequently in cases like this.
