Dropped by Auto Insurer and can't get new insurer
by Hilary
(Toronto Ontario Canada)
I have been notified by State Farm that they no longer wish to continue my auto policy with them. They still want to provide insurance for my household and business policies though. I have had 2 speeding tickets and a ticket for rolling through a stop sign over the past 3 years. I have contacted other insurers who will not give me a policy unless I mail in driver abstract and a letter from my previous insurer stating that there are no at fault claims. They will not accept this information if it is delivered to their office - only mailed in. The timeline to acquire insurance this way is a period of 1-2 weeks which will leave me without coverage - thereby allowing them to alter the quote amount - like a sick cat and mouse game. Many companies do not to take me on a client - you would think that I had done something absolutely heinous. What happened to same day insurance? Do I have any recourse and are insurers allowed to put up obstacles like this?
Dropped for Three Tickets
Hi Hilary
A lot of insurers will not insure someone who has three or more tickets in three years. But you should be able to get coverage. Try here:
FREE Auto Insurance QuotesYou can also try local brokerages. They should have more options for you.
You can not be refused auto insurance. But you might end up with Facility Association if you don't shop around aggressively. Facility is the insurer of last resort and the rates are high.
