demirit points and how does it affect insurance premiums

Driving Under the Influence. Police knocked on my door after I was in my house and brought in my groceries. I had had 2 beers at a friend's home 5 minutes from my home. Backed my car into the driveway and took my groceries in and closed door. A policeman knocked on my door and said a "concerned citizen" had reported me, as it turned out there was no "concerned citizen" when in fact it was a Woman Police Officer that followed me home, they asked me to step out of my house, and I asked what for. It was about 11:30 and no one on the road, I wasn't driving erratically. The Woman Police Officer barged past the Male Police Officer, entered the house handcuffed me, pulled my coat down to my shoulders, looked through my jacked, which had my car keys, and kleenex, took me to the station for a breathalizer, I did not blow over the limit, however they suspended my licence for 3 days, which I paid $150.00 to get my licence back, I was not charged or convicted. They didn't seem to know what to do, so they suspended my licence for 3 day, which I put in order after the 3 day suspension. I just received my Car Insurance renewal and it has gone up substantially. Did I loose demerit points as a result of this incident, and did it affect my Car Insurance Premiums?
Driving Under Influence - No Conviction
Wow, that's quite an event you experienced. A three day suspension should not change your rates. And demerit points do not affect insurance. Just the actual ticket/conviction.
If you had a DUI your insurer would likely not have renewed you and your rates would be 3-5 times higher.
If your rates went up 10-20% (or even 50%) it could just be a normal rate hike by the company. In which case you might want to shop around.
By the way, are your rates too high? Check here:
