car insurance

can my friend drive my car. she doesn't have a car so she doesn't have car insurance. would she be covered by mine if i wasn't in the car with her.

If she has a valid drivers license, and you have car insurance for your car, then yes, you can lend her your car.

Quoting the Insurance Bureau of Canada:

"When you lend your auto, you also share your auto insurance. Typically, a guest driver is also covered under your policy. Should the guest driver cause a collision while driving your vehicle, your premium may increase."

So keep in mind that if your friend has an accident, it could affect your rates. Especially if the accident is at fault.

Hope that helps.

Please be sure to discuss this further with a licensed insurance representative. Oh, and by the way, are your rates too high? Check here:
