Can my insurance company stop covering me?

by Adam
(Brampton, Ontario)

I've been driving with a G2 license and I've been in two accidents over the last six months, in the first accident I lost control of my vehicle during poor weather conditions and I'm willing to admit I was at fault for that accident. However, I was recently in a second accident when my car was rear-ended in which the other driver was found to be at fault and was charged by the police. My insurance policy is coming up for renewal in August and my insurance company is now telling me that they are unwilling to continue to cover me and that I will have to look for insurance elsewhere? Are they allowed to do that, even though the accident wasn't my fault?

Non Renewed Due to Driving Record

Hi Adam
If their filed rules account for this situation, then they can certainly do it. That would be likely if you also had a ticket or two (related OR unrelated to the accident). You should ask for a detailed explanation. No matter what you are going to be facing a big increase in rates. You'll really need to shop around to save money.
