Can I hold my Auto Insurance as I am moving out of country for few months
by A. K. T.
(Burlington)
I had bought my auto insurance in Feb'10 and then had to move out of country in Sept'10. So I had canceled my auto insurance from Sept'10 till Feb'11. I came back and bought a new auto insurance in Mar'11 and now again due to unforeseen reasons have to move out of country for 3 months and will not be driving my car in canada.
Is there any way I can hold my insurance for few $$ a months and keep my insurance continuous? Or will it be a better option to cancel my insurance and buy it again when I come back to Canada?
Pl. respond. Thanks...
Holding Insurance
Hi there,
One solution that suits some people is to put the car under comprehensive coverage only. That means the car is parked and is essentially only covered for fire and theft. Speak with your insurer about comprehensive only or specified perils coverage. If they allow you to do it, be sure to call them before you drive again. Otherwise you don't have coverage.
Hope that helps
