Can I even get a car? I've been quoted $5999 to $9999 a year for insurance!! and not a new car-would be my first

Hi,

I am incredibly discouraged. I have started looking into car insurance prices for myself. I am a 39 year old female in Ontario, currently just started going through Young Drivers of Canada's comprehensive program, just currently have my G1 and know I have to wait 12 months to pass the drive test for G2. I am aware currently I will need someone with full G license to be with me when driving during the 12 month period.
I need a car and have been looking at older models with lower mileage and good condition, reliable and good fuel usage (such as 2007 Civic Hatchback)and went to an online quote engine which apparently brings up to 16 best insurances companies prices. I got one with the quote of $5999 to $9999 a year! Who can afford this? I was told by people that the fact I am older (not a teenager), going through Young Drivers of Canada program which is recognized, female that my rates should not be too bad! Well a $500 to $800+ month insurance quote I can't afford!!! Is there hope here??

Depressed and frustrated.

G1 And Insurance Quotes

is the quote based on a G1 or G2? All you can do is shop around, and consider a slightly older model.

My daughter is just a brand new g2 driver, she's 16 and has a brand new accent. We shopped around and the cheapest we found was 242/month. But she's on her own and not affecting my insurance. We used www..Kenetix.ca site and prices varied from 2800/yr to 6000/yr. it pays to shop around

time to drop insurance

Rates in Ontario are criminal, so it is time for me to consider driving without insurance at all. I will be a lesser criminal than the insurance companies!

It is possible
by: also 38 with G2

It is possible. I started with my G2 under belair direct and although it was pricey, it was possible. I shopped around for a decent 2002 vehicle and I am lucky enough that work is very close to home. I was given a rate of about $289 per month. That said, they are not quick to drop rates and I received an increase with my renewal. I believe it will drop a little if I pass my G testing. Good luck to you!

Same Problem
by: Pauline

I am having a similar problem - I have the G2, female, older - can not believe what they want for insurance.

My solution is to find someone who's been driving for a while with continuous insurance to buy the car with.

Maybe you can get a family member or friend to put the car in their name and have you listed as an occasional driver?
