Apperently we had no insurance

This past weekend due to a large amount of rain, we had our basement flooded, we called our insurance broker and they said that about a year and half ago we cancelled our car insurance thru them and threw a miscommunication they cancelled our house insurance also. We DID NOT receive a letter or a phone call from our mortgage company or our insurance people stating anything about loss of coverage on the house. Can they do this? Aren't we supposed to sign something?

Home Insurance Cancellation Response

Hi there,
That sure is bad news. Most insurance companies ask for a signed cancellation to prove that you do want to cancel. So you might have a legal recourse.

The fact that it has been over a year since the policy was cancelled will be a problem for you. You should know if you have made payments on your policy or not.

If your mortgage company has not contacted you, then they most likely did not receive notice of cancellation.

You most likely need legal counsel if you are going to get them claim covered.

Hope that helps.
