Nova Scotia Auto Insurance

The Nova Scotia Auto Insurance market underwent some reform in 2003 and the market today is quite competitive. In the years leading up to the 2003 auto insurance reforms there were many companies that would only insure drivers with the very best driving records. Since the reforms were put in place the market is much more competitive and rates have come down.

One of the key parts of the reform was the introduction of a $2500 limit on "pain and suffering" benefits that could be awarded to very minor injuries from an auto accident. This does not affect claims for permanent injuries or claims for income replacement and rehabilitation costs that result in minor injuries.

Minimum Nova Scotia Auto Insurance Coverage

The minimum coverage for liability (including bodily injury, death, and property damage) is $500,000. This covers you or legal settlements and court awards against you as a result of your auto insurance liability.

If you are injured in a car crash your insurance company will pay up to $25,000 for your medical bills and up to $140/week for up to 104 weeks (2 years) for lost income.

It is highly recommended that you speak with your insurance company, broker or agent about your coverage. You should consider higher coverage in these areas and you should consider the optional coverages as well (like collision and comprehensive for example).
