Commercial General Liability Insurance
Commercial General Liability Insurance is the core coverage that any business needs. It provides coverage for events that could financially ruin a business if the business was found liable. This is probably the most important part of any Business Liability Insurance policy.  The CGL policy usually protects from liability arising from - Bodily Injury
- Property Damage or loss
- Personal Injury (includes slander)
- Medical Expenses
- Tenants Legal Liability
Please note that there currently is not a standard Commercial General Liability Policy in Canada at this time. It is very important to review the policy wordings and consult with your insurance advisor. In the event of a covered claim, the insurance company pays the cost of the claim, damages, legal fees and settlements up to the limits of the policy and within the definitions of the policy. What is normally excluded from a CGL? Some policies will cover these exclusions if arranged in advance. For example, a construction company may need pollution coverage or coverage for pile driving. - Intentional injury or property damage
- Compensatory Damages agreed to in a contract such as a “hold Harmless” contract
- Obligations under Workmans Comp., Employment Insurance or other similar government coverage
- Bodily injury during course of employment (this is workmans comp)
- Property Damage due to a motorized vehicle accident
- Property Damage to your product
- Abuse and Harassment – this is EPL coverage
- Pollution
- War
- Nuclear Energy
- Use of Explosives or Pile Driving activity
- Professional Liability
- Fungi
- Data
- Terrorism
- Asbestos
