2 insurance company

Is it legal to have 2 auto insurance company? e.g. 2 cars will be insured on 1 company and the other car in another company.

It is usually best to have all cars on one policy. But there are some cases where it is best to have two policies. But full disclosure to both insurance companies is very important.
